As part of the Department’s work-life balance initiatives, the DENR National Gender and Development Focal Point System conducted a 2-day program on Effective Communication for married couples who are both working at DENR on January 31-February 1, 2008 held at Ciudad Christhia Resort, San Mateo, Rizal.
This is to enhance their productivity in the workplace, bringing them to awareness of their current behaviors and communication style, facilitating understanding and acceptable of their strengths and areas for improvement as well as their differences with others, and providing the venue for participants to agree on ways to more effectively adapt to others to enhance relationships.
The program consisted of short presentations and personal/dyad and group reflections and discussions. The program also consisted of validating the results of a personal assessment using the DiSC© model of behavior to help participants understand their current behaviors and communication style. The DiSC© model is a copyrighted Personal Development Profile assessment instrument to surface the participants’ typical communication styles. Thus, provides helpful information on one’s communication style along the 4 dimensions of D for Dominance, I for Influence, S for Steadiness and C for Conscientiousness.
In order to increase the probability of applying the new skills learned in this program, the participants were asked to prepare re-entry plans for their work and family. Questions include – i). What I should stop doing? ii). What I should start doing and iii). What I should improve?
