The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) chairperson, Mrs. Remedios I. Rikken, commended the outstanding achievement of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in empowering women. This was announced during a Consultative Meeting with the DENR GAD focal persons from the different bureaus, attached agencies and the Central Office on March 5, 2015 at the FMB Director’s Conference Room.

Mrs. Rikken was enthralled when DENR Asst. Secretary for Administration and Finance, Corazon C. Davis, informed her of the more than 300 third level positions occupied by women in the Department nationwide.  In the top management alone, Atty. Analiza Rebuelta-Teh sits as Undersecretary and Chief of Staff while Ms. Corazon C. Davis and Atty. Michelle Go sit as Assistant Secretaries for Administration and Finance and Planning, respectively.

ASec Davis said this significant number of women occupying decision-making positions (directors down to division chiefs) in the department commenced with the appointment of Hon. Ramon J.P. Paje as the DENR Secretary. This manifests the total support for empowering women and gender equality by the top management of the Department.

Delighted with this accomplishment, Mrs. Rikken suggested a continuing department- wide training on Gender Sensitivity among the GAD focal persons. The training will equip the selected men and women employees of the DENR with the necessary knowledge and skills to further enhance their capability in sharing the goals and objectives of women empowerment and gender equality.

This suggestion was well noted by ASec. Davis and FMB OIC, Assistant Director Mayumi Quintos-Natividad including the focal persons from the various offices of the DENR.
